Dr. Geffin is a well known and respected urologist in the Massachusetts Urologic community. He attended medical school and trained in Boston. He maintains his academic position at Boston Medical Center, the teaching hospital for Boston University School of Medicine. He has served in many state Urological society office positions. He was the youngest president of the Boston Urological Society serving for 3 years and held multiple other executive positions there. Presently, he remains an active member of the Executive Board of the Massachusetts Association of Practicing Urologist (MAPU) which is based out of the Massachusetts Medical Society offices. He recently spearheaded and oversaw the technology initiative for MAPU . He is also a member of the American Urological Association and the New England Section of the American Urological Association and regularly attends their meeting throughout the year.
He is the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Advanced Prostate Cancer Care of Greater Boston Urology, LLC. He practices general Urology with a weighted subspecialization in Urologic Oncology and advanced Prostate Cancer care. Early in his career he spent six months at The Dana Farber Institute involved in benchwork research looking at Prostate Cancer genetics. His passion in this area has led him to be asked to lecture at many hospital grand rounds session educating other physician on screening and treating prostate cancer. Also, he has written article for the lay press and was recently the featured Urologist expert in Metrowest’s Lens Magazine discussing prostate cancer. He is one of the early trained physicians in Laparoscopic Robot Surgery using the Davinci Robot and was the first Urologist on the north shore of Boston to perform and offer his prostate cancer patients this specialized treatment option. He introduced Prostate Brachytherapy and other minimally invasive prostate therapies to the patient population when he practiced at Beverly Hospital and continues to have interest in minimal invasive therapies and treatments for prostate cancer and other prostate disease. He is one of a handful of urologist throughout the state of Massachusetts with advanced training and experience in MRI guided Ultrasound fused biopsy of the prostate which is the only technology for biopsy targeting of specific lesion of the prostate rather than the standard multiple zone sampling of the prostate. With this technology and skill, doctors from Boston, western Massachusetts and throughout the state have referred patients to Dr. Geffin for his expertise.
Dr. Geffin’s general urological practices includes treating patient with kidneys stones, bladder and benign prostate disorders. His other medical interests include technology and it’s integration in medical care and telemedicine. Honors and awards include the Harry M. Spence Visiting Professor guest Chief Resident Presenter, the American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award, July, l999-July, 2002, Patients’ Choice Award 2011, Patients’ Choice Award- Compassionate Doctor Recognition 2011, 2014 and Vitals.Com Ontime Doctor Award 2015. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the New England Section of the American Urological Association, the Massachusetts Association of Practicing Urologist and The Large Urology Practice Association. He is a Board Certified and re-Certified Urologist by the American Board of Urology. In January of 2015, he joined Greater Boston Urology, the largest integrated Urology group in Massachusetts serving patients from Framingham in the western suburbs of Boston to Falmouth on Cape Cod.
